What Is Child Advocates Day at the Capitol?
Thanks for your interest! Child Advocates Day at the Capitol is a fun and important day for us to visit the Minnesota Capitol to speak up for vulnerable Minnesota children.
To prepare for our Child Advocates Day at the Capitol, we teach our Volunteer Child Advocates about the issues which are most important right now that will help abused and neglected Minnesota children.
Then, our Volunteer Child Advocates meet at the Minnesota Capitol and meet with their appointed State Senator or Representative to share their story and this important information.
Our elected officials love to hear from their constituents and are excited to meet you and hear what you have to share with them! You are the voice for abused and neglected Minnesota children at the Capitol.
Appointments with your legislators during Day at the Capitol are scheduled during our morning or afternoon “sessions.”
Attending the “morning session” means that your appointment(s) to meet with your state legislator(s) will happen between approximately 8am and 12 noon. You’ll need to be available during that time frame on March 5th and we will let you know when your legislator appointment(s) are once we get them scheduled.
Attending the “afternoon session” means that your appointment(s) to meet with your state legislator(s) will happen between approximately 12 noon and 4pm. You’ll need to be available during that time frame on March 5th and we will let you know when your appointments are once we get them scheduled.
If you are interested in attending our 2020 child advocates day at the capitol, likely in March, please submit your information below
On behalf of Minnesota’s most vulnerable children, thank you!
Here are some reactions from Volunteer Child Advocates who attended last year’s event:
--- “I'd rate it a 10. It was really nothing like I'd experienced before and a fun filled day.” - Child Advocate J.E.
--- "The day went well, organization was good, handout was clear and my representatives were pleasant to meet with and seemed interested. A job well done!” - Child Advocate G.G.
--- "I rate my experience on the hill with a 10! Rich's presence was very helpful to me to better understand what Safe Passages had been 'formally' doing, since I am not a politician. This work at the Capitol has taken me to a new level of understanding and a very willing worker in this effort." - Child Advocate M.N.
